A new report from the Dexus Property group has looked into what employees want in a workplace. This report was based on a survey of 300 Australian executives in growing SME’s and has some remarkable findings; over 74% of those studied stated that job satisfaction is directly impacted by their workplace, while 71% said it impacts upon productivity and team engagement.
Here are the six key elements that employees look for in an ideal workplace:
A great location - Employees want to be close to cafes, shops and other amenities. This makes it easier to stay connected to people outside of work, and also makes it possible to maintain work/ life balance as they can fit life commitments like gym, banking and doctors appointments easily into their work day.
Public Transport - The daily commute can be stressful, and most employees want to be within 500 meters of reliable public transport.
Fast Internet - A fast and reliable internet connection is required by almost all office workers. This also includes reliable WiFi connections so employees can choose the locations they would prefer to work from.
Access to the outdoors - 49% of respondents would like access to communal rooftops or other outdoor spaces.
Privacy - Most office workers need a mixture of spaces for collaboration, and also for private focused work.
Wellness - Increasingly, Australian office workers are concerned about their health. 47% would like an on-site gym in their offices, and 40% would like access to health and wellness classes at work. Employers can also cater to healthy employees by providing healthy snack options, and shower and bike storage facilities for those who choose to ride in.
